Do you want to get out of town for a small weekend getaway? Perhaps you would like to take the family to the beach, but you don’t want to make a 10-12 drive to get to one? We found somewhere to go, that is only 4 hours from Louisville, KY!
Recently the Inside Louisville team took a weekend to make a trip up to the Indiana Dunes, located in Porter, IN. It only took us about four and a half hours to get there from the Louisville, Kentucky area!
We found a cozy and accommodating hotel located in Porter, Indiana, that is just minutes from National and state park beach, a selection of tourist attractions, restaurants, and local businesses! Spring House Inn surpassed our expectations of a comfortable place to bring our families to stay for two nights. We got to have two adjoining rooms with two queen beds, which was great for our three toddlers to go back and forth from and play together! This hotel is in a wooded area. The view from the balcony was BEAUTIFUL, with lots of greenery surrounding the building. Everywhere you go to spend time in the hotel, had a balcony that you can go out and relax on. Even the pool area! Our group got to spend a lot of time at the beach, but when we did not have the time to go back to the beach, we were able to take the kids swimming in the hotel pool. They had a blast! More info about Spring House Inn at https://springhouseinn.com/
We went to Indiana Dunes National Park during our stay and spent most of the day at the beach. We were amazed by how big and beautiful it was! It truly felt as if we were at the ocean. We hiked up the Dunes, which is a doable but challenging walk. It was well worth it, with the view that we got to see at the top, while the sun was beginning to set. We were worried about crowds during this vacation, but the beach is big enough where the group could still easily follow CDC’s social distancing guidelines, even on the weekend.
The town of Porter had a small-town vibe to it, but it still had a variety of options for families like ours. Spring House Inn was only minutes away from anywhere we wanted to go to during our stay.
We visited a few great restaurants during our stay. One being Santiago’s. They had great outdoor seating with umbrellas, which made us more comfortable during the pandemic. The food was delicious with affordable pricing. Another place we visited was the Craft House, in Chesterton IN. They had a wide liquor selection and great appetizers!
Our two-day stay ended too quickly. We plan to return to visit the Indiana Dunes and beach again. Our only regret is not staying longer than we did! When we return, without question, we will be staying at Spring House Inn. The staff was amicable and had a wealth of information for us regarding attractions and dining in the area. The rooms were clean. The hotel had a home-like feel to it!
You definitely will not regret your trip to Porter! Home of Spring House Inn and Indiana Dunes.
