The Big Four Bridge in Louisville will light up tonight with a very cool $1.8 million light show, and those lights will become a permanent nightly event from dusk until midnight.
Our Mayor Greg Fischer will officially turn on the lights consisting of 1,500 LED’s installed on the Big Four Bridge over the Ohio River tonight.
The bridge has a state of the computer art program that will produce a combination of colorful light designs each night, and special programs for holidays such as Thunder over Louisville, Valentine’s Day and Christmas.
Is it worth $1.8 million for a light show? Comment below
Hmm.. lets see, fountain in the river, nah, too much money to maintain… OH CRAP! Maintenance! Ouch, Louisville you will have to pay more taxes now. Oh, by the way, I hope not too many visitors get shot, beat up or raped since the bridge is right between two of the most dangerous cities in America.
Great now you can get mugged while watching dogs crap on the bridge under the lights.
Yes, the money could have gone to the homeless, or to care for some animals, or many other various causes. As long as we are going there, so could the money that was used to develop the riverfront. So could the extra money that was spent to add some character to the bridges, rather than just paying only for a simple concrete span. Over the years, the money that was used to develop the park systems in Louisville, or any of the services that the county pays for that could be considered something that makes life better for citizens who are not homeless; this money could be used for the homeless. The library- just think how much money could be utilized to provide for the homeless if the county did not support the library. Or Shakespeare in the Park. Or the Derby Festival. Or just think how much money could be saved if we didn’t improve sidewalks. Can’t we all put up with a bit more crumbling concrete if the money instead goes to the homeless, or feeds some starving animals?
I expect that over the years, this light show will bring in some folks to the downtown area to see it, and they will likely leave a bit of cash at some of the businesses there. There is also a value in civic pride. Yes, some may think it tacky, and they are entitled to their opinion. There’s also some that don’t like Shakespeare or the Derby Festival, but that doesn’t mean the county shouldn’t support it.
Oh yeah the Library.. where they allow pedophiles and perverts to openly watch porn! Great one! And why not keep people starving so middle class snobs “can have a better life”!? And bike trails, oh yes those awesome *$$hole people riding bikes on our roads! WOW! Maybe we could paint our roads pretty colors? As far as our schools go they’re just a major waste anyway making people more stupid and with less common sense, but hey! They’ll accept gays now! As long as the Liberals control schools they will never improve.
Let’s see…..we could feed the hungry, help the homeless, give it to our schools, heal the sick, help some child’s pet who needs vet care, help the animal shelters, clean our parks, build playgrounds for children in poor neighborhoods, etc. etc. ….the mind boggles with all the ways this money could have been better spent. But no……we need a million dollar light show!
Could this be Louisville’s Arch???? The bridge that went nowhere,, finally goes somewhere, and it does it in style.
Think of all the help to the homeless people downtown 1.8 million could have done.
Great job Mayor Fisher !!!! I love the bridge and tell everyone about it Including out of towners because I meet a lot of people. Sherry Sublett
I believe that this is going to be a beautiful sight for Louisville and I personally can not wait to see the bridge lit up at night. Going to be great so I don’t see why there is so much negativity about this. Good job Mayor.
Would rather have seen the money go to the animals. LMAS needs all the help they can get.
Could have looked classy, instead looks garish. Doesn’t bode well for Louisville’s taste.
1.8 million. How many homeless people would love to have $10 of that to buy a meal at mcdonalds? Hell no the mayor wants lights for his peeps. Oh I forgot tolls and our taxes will pay for it thats right lol.
thats allot of money for lights
